I recently developed an interest in hiking the mountain trails where I live in northwest Tucson. We just had a gate installed in our backyard opening up to a trail at the south end of Catalina State Park. The irony is I love the outdoors, but for over a year I have allowed a block fence to stand in my way of something that has become a great joy. And bonus... it's great exercise and stress relief, and I need both! It has even inspired me to get in shape to hike the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim. I will certainly blog my progress towards that goal.
I am convinced that there is an application to my spiritual journey. There are walls that need to be modified with a passageway in order to expose myself to new experiences with Christ… and new dreams! The walls are fear, tradition, routine, insecurity, natural limitations, the opinion of others, and more. I believe God has plans for my life that are beyond my ability to imagine in the confines of my spiritual backyard. Busting down the wall is a metaphor of faith, and authentic faith produces action, and faith-driven action produces the supernatural (Mark 16:17 – Signs follow belief). So hiking has ignited a spiritual desire to break through those walls and experience the Grand Canyon sized dreams God wants to plant in my life.
