Sometimes I Play Golf
I am playing golf with a good friend in a few hours. I love rubbing shoulders with my guys in the real world. That is where relationships are deepened and the message of strengthening our spiritual journey moves from theory to practice. There are different levels of discipleship, and for a pastor, I would say the platform on the weekend is probably the lowest level of discipleship. Don’t get me wrong; there is power in that ministry and it is humbling to be called to it. When it comes to making a disciple, there is no greater degree of involvement that we can have than by doing life with someone else. In this relationship you can have authenticity and transparency. Others get to know the “real you” and get to see first hand how the message has changed your life. You can’t hide in this level of discipleship - or if you do, you will quickly be found out. I am amazed at how the Holy Spirit can work so powerfully through simply doing life with others - on the golf course, over a cup of good coffee, hiking a trail together - if we simply tune in to His frequency and allow Him to season our relationships. So, I play golf sometimes.
